Ecoprojects Community Fund: Three grants for environmental projects
At its April 7 public meeting, the municipal council awarded grants to three organizations under the Ecoprojects Community Fund. The projects eligible for financial assistance are Les Éco-Héros de l’école Brind’Amour ($2,772.65), Jardin scolaire à l’école des Légendes ($5,000) and Jardin Échos-Nourricier de l’école secondaire des Échos ($5,000).
These three projects were selected by an analysis committee following the City’s call at the beginning of the year for applications from citizens, non-profit organisations and public institutions wishing to carry out an environmental initiative in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The projects will be implemented by the end of 2025.
"The enthusiastic response to the Ecoprojects Community Fund is a testament to the willingness of our organisations and citizens to get actively involved in protecting and enhancing their living environment. I would like to thank everyone who submitted a project for this fourth edition. All three of the selected initiatives will be carried out in a school context. This shows just how important protecting the environment is to our young people. We recently moved the Generations Chair to our new council chamber. For us, it’s a constant reminder of our duty to future generations in the decisions we make," said Mayor Guy Pilon.
Projects selected in 2025
The aim of the Les Éco-Héros project is to create a mini distribution centre for bulk household products for families at Brind’Amour school, thereby reducing plastic consumption by promoting the use of reusable containers. A system of ordering, filling and delivery through the school shop will be operated by the students, accompanied by their teacher.
Initiated by Jordan Stansbury, a parent of a kindergarten student, Jardin scolaire à l’école des Légendes aims to set up a gardening club bringing together students, teachers, parents and members of the community, including residents of the nearby Chartwell Le Prescott residence. The funding will be used to purchase sustainable materials, including raised metal planters, a garden shed, a water collection barrel, an irrigation system and tools. This project will encourage learning and biodiversity, and create intergenerational links with the elderly.
The Jardin Échos-Nourricier project at École secondaire des Échos involves creating a perennial food garden to introduce young people at the secondary school to indigenous edible plants and give them a chance to learn about the principles of sustainable agriculture. The project’s initiators also hope to use the garden as a social integration tool, welcoming immigrant families to their school and the community through the discovery of local flavours.
