The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion awards $523,000 to its organizations and athletes

On Thursday, February 6, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion brought together representatives of community, cultural, sports, and leisure organizations, as well as up-and-coming athletes, to award them grants totaling nearly $523,000 to support their various activities.

Focused on networking, this meeting aimed to thank the 137 volunteers from 49 organizations for their valuable commitment to the community. Each year, the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion provides them with financial assistance, in addition to supporting them by offering logistical help for their events and making spaces available for meetings or storage. This year, an amount of $520,000 was allocated to them.

"Vaudreuil-Dorion owes a great part of its vitality to the diversity of high-quality activities offered by its many organizations operating within the city. The City provides essential infrastructure, but it is our volunteers who bring it to life by offering sports, cultural, and community activities for all generations. Thank you to them for making Vaudreuil-Dorion such an enriching and unifying place," emphasized Guy Pilon, Mayor of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Participants had the opportunity to attend a conference by Sylvie Bernier, gold medalist in diving at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. She delivered her conference Être et agir, un tremplin vers le mieux-être!, which explains how to incorporate healthy lifestyle habits into daily life for a better balance between personal and professional life.

Grants for Athletes

This evening was also an opportunity to award a total of $3,188.97 to seven young athletes from Vaudreuil-Dorion, competing in various disciplines and recognized as Espoir, Relève, or Élite by their federation. This financial support, provided through the Politique de soutien à l’athlète, aims to acknowledge the sporting achievements of Vaudreuil-Dorion's young athletes and encourage their participation in major sporting events, such as championships, selections, or high-level competitions at the provincial, national, or international level, as well as specialized training camps or advanced development programs recognized by their federation and essential for their growth.

This year, the following athletes received financial support to help cover part of their participation in various sporting events:

  • Elliot Collard, volleyball
Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, Halifax
  • Elisabelle Gagné, volleyball
    Camp pré-relève et compétition, Drummondville

Mayor Guy Pilon took the opportunity to recognize the efforts of these young athletes: "Committing to a sport requires great discipline, and I want to congratulate you on your achievements. You have every reason to be proud! Parents also deserve a participation medal, as their role is essential. Their commitment and dedication, investing time and energy, greatly contribute to their children's development and the achievement of their goals."
