Camp Franco-fun receives the Jury’s Choice Award at the Nomina Gala

The City of Vaudreuil-Dorion is pleased to announce that Camp Franco-fun won the Jury’s Choice Award at the Nomina gala, which took place on June 13th in La Prairie. The purpose of this gala is to celebrate excellence and innovation in the field of sports and recreation across the Montérégie region. As a finalist in the Camps category, the Franco-fun camp succeeded in winning over the members of the jury and earning the Jury’s Choice Award among the 25 projects from municipalities and organizations nominated across all categories.

The Franco-fun Day Camp was offered for the first time in 2022 and was especially designed for allophone children in Vaudreuil-Dorion who wished to continue developing their French skills throughout the summer. This camp is intended as a means to promote social and linguistic integration through recreational activities. The program is the result of a collaborative effort between the City, the Animation Jeunesse team and the Centre de services scolaire des Trois-Lacs. Two additional partners, Réseaux and the Fondation des enfants de Vaudreuil-Soulanges, joined the project in 2024. This summer, 50 children aged between 5 and 12 will benefit from this service for a period of two weeks.

"We are very proud of the award we received for Camp Franco-fun, an innovative project that transforms the summer of allophone children in Vaudreuil-Dorion into a unique learning and cultural integration experience. This program not only strengthens their French language skills, but it also creates strong ties within our community, making access to local resources easier while helping immigrant families build roots. This award acts as a great recognition for our team who is continually trying to develop new offers adapted to the needs of citizens," said Vincent Bastien, Director of Recreation and Culture for the City of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

"Camp Franco-fun is a perfect example of an initiative aimed at developing mechanisms for welcoming, integrating and supporting our new residents. This is one of the objectives behind our policy on living together. Over the years, Vaudreuil-Dorion has undergone a significant transformation. Many of our new citizens are immigrants. It is essential for our organization to participate in the development of a welcoming and inclusive community life. I would like to thank and congratulate all the employees and partners who contributed to the success of the Franco-fun camp project," added Mayor Guy Pilon.
